The Haliburton Highlands Family Health Team, incorporated July 12, 2006, is very fortunate to have a Board of First Directors that are experienced in health care and dedicated to improving access to primary care.

2. Director - Chair



Scott Coles () / Physician
Dr. Coles has been cottaging in Haliburton County since birth. After graduating from the University of Toronto's Medical Program, he went on to complete his family practice residency with the Northeastern Ontario Family Medicine program of the University of Ottawa.
As a physician, he first came to Haliburton County as a locum in Summer 1996, then moved permanently here to set up his family practice in 1998. Since that time, he has fulfilled a variety of roles including Chief of Staff of the Haliburton Highlands Health Services and has been the Lead Physician for the Haliburton Highlands Family Health Network since 2002.
Scott has played an integral role in the success of the Family Health Team since the first lead partner meeting in December of 2004, having chaired the steering committee through planning, proposals, applications and development.

3. Director - Vice Chair



Stephen Ferracuti () / Physician
Dr. Ferracuti graduated from the University of Western Ontario's medical program in 1986. He completed his internship at Ottawa General Hospital. Dr. Ferracuti did a few years of locums until 1992 when he moved to the Haliburton Highlands from St. Catharines.
Dr. Ferracuti has been a member of the medical staff at the Haliburton Hospital and a partner of the Haliburton Family Medical Group since that time. He has held a variety of positions including Chair of the Medical Staff, Vice-Chair and Tariff Chair for the Section of Rural Practice of the Ontario Medical Association. Currently, Steve is acting as a board member for Canadian Physicians for Aid and Relief.
An avid hockey player, Dr. Ferracuti is General Manager and Most Sportsman-like Player for the "Tragically Hick", Haliburton's medical hockey team.

Christine Stephenson () / Physician
Dr. Stephenson graduated from the medical program of the University of Ottawa in 1986. She completed a one year rotating internship at Toronto East General and then arrived in the Haliburton Highlands as a summer locum in 1987. After a short locum in New Zealand, Tina returned in November 1988 and has become an vital member of the medical team.
Dr. Stephenson has fulfilled the role of Medical Director at Highland Wood Long-Term Care Facility for the past five years. She enjoys running and gardening and identifies her most important job as being the mother of two active children.
Kim Ballantyne () / Health Executive
Kim Ballantyne is currently the Regional Manager HKPR Hospitals with the Central East Community Care Access Centre. As a graduate of the University of Toronto with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 1993, she has worked as an RN in an acute care setting, a long term care facility, been a visiting and hospital nurse in the community, a case manager in the CCAC and has held a variety of management positions within the CCAC. Some of her achievements within the CCAC include the development of the Case Management Model for Short-Stay Clients as well as the Case Management Model for the Haliburton Highlands Family Health Team. Kim is a strong advocate for improving and providing quality health care and has participated in many internal and external committees to represent the health needs of the residents of Haliburton County.
